Roberto F. Travieso, MPA

Director | Department of Public Works

Roberto Travieso serves as director of public works in the vibrant City of Riviera Beach, Florida. He leads a skilled team in delivering essential public works services to a community of over 38,000 residents across an area encompassing 8.5 square miles. His role involves overseeing both routine maintenance and strategic, long-term capital improvement projects.
Mr. Travieso efficiently manages the department's substantial $19,000,000 operating budget. This budget supports delivery of key administrative, engineering, facility and grounds maintenance, fleet maintenance, street maintenance, and stormwater maintenance services. He also ensures the seamless provision of landscaping, solid waste management, security, janitorial services, and oversees contracts with external vendors.

A distinguished U.S. Air Force Veteran with over two decades of active-duty service, Mr. Travieso brings a unique blend of discipline and commitment to his role. His military assignments have taken him across the continental United States, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

Educationally, Mr. Travieso holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration/information technology from Mount Olive University, a master’s degree in public administration from Central Michigan University, and a graduate certificate in city management from Villanova University.

Before his current role, Mr. Travieso served as the Public Works Director in the Town of Lake Park, Florida. There, he successfully managed a $5,300,000 annual operating budget, overseeing in-house waste collection, recycling services, stormwater utility, park and grounds maintenance, and comprehensive streets and roads upkeep. His leadership was marked by a capital improvement program exceeding $25,000,000, including the acclaimed Lake Shore Drive Drainage Improvement Project, recognized by the Florida Stormwater Association with the 2022 Outstanding Achievement Award. Furthermore, his oversight of the department’s Stormwater Division earned the Association’s 2023 Program Excellence Award.

From 2018 to 2021, Mr. Travieso served as the Public Works Superintendent in the City of West Palm Beach. His responsibilities covered complex street maintenance activities, including asphalt and concrete maintenance divisions, street lighting, traffic operations, and a full-service graphics and sign shop. His scope of responsibility extended to 513 lane miles of city-owned streets, benefiting 117,000 residents, 20,000 businesses, and millions of annual visitors.

Notably, Mr. Travieso also served as the Assistant Field Station Superintendent for the South Florida Management District in Broward County, further enriching his diverse professional background.

Mr. Travieso and his spouse take great pride in being integral members of the Riviera Beach community, where they have dedicated themselves to enriching the lives of children as foster parents since 2023. Their unwavering commitment to providing a nurturing and supportive environment for foster children has made a significant impact on the community, reflecting their deep-seated values of care and compassion.
