FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
CITY KICKS OFF CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION WITH ‘JAWS’ ON THE BEACH
RIVIERA BEACH, FL. (Feb. 16, 2022) – The City of Riviera Beach is set to kick off its
Centennial Celebration this month, culminating in a grand finale on the City’s birthday
on Sept. 29 with the groundbreaking of a new City Hall on Broadway Avenue.
The year-long celebration will recognize the City’s long and rich history that contributes
to its warm, culturally diverse and friendly community. While the we all REIMAGINE
RIVIERA BEACH, the Centennial Celebration allows us to celebrate our past, while
creating our future.
The first of many events is JAWS on the Municipal Beach on Sunday, Feb. 27. Gates
open at 4:30 p.m. and the movie starts at 5 p.m. The event is free and attendees will
view the classic movie on a jumbo LED screen with free popcorn and drinks. Movie
goers are encouraged to bring their own chairs, although cabana chair rentals will be
available. Food and drinks are allowed.
In 1940, the City of Riviera purchased 1,000 feet of beach on the Island for $40,000.
This led to the growth of tourism in Riviera and eventual incorporation of the island north
of Palm Beach Shores. In 1941, the city of Riviera changed its name to Riviera Beach.
Stay tuned for a year-long schedule of fun-filled activities and events that best capture
the unique sense of community and natural beauty that truly exemplifies why the great
City of Riviera Beach is the best place to live, work and play. For more event
