FIRE STATION 88 IS THE NEWEST JEWEL IN THE CITY OF RIVIERA BEACH
RIVIERA BEACH, FL. (June 29, 2023) – Fire Station 88 is set to change the game with its state-of-the-art technology and design. The 31,000 square foot building is engineered to be more than just functional, with an emphasis on the physical and mental wellbeing of our firefighters.
At the grand opening on Saturday, July 8, 2023 the public is invited to explore the building's cutting-edge features, including a gym, wellness room, and decontamination facilities that will minimize firefighters’ exposure to carcinogens.
There are many other features that promote health and wellness, such as lighting tuned to the body’s circadian rhythm, zoned alerting, passive environmental controls, a decontamination room, energy pods, and detox saunas. All of these helps to minimize the potential risk for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorders (PTSD).
“Mental health is taking a toll in the fire service. There are statistics that states firefighters are more likely to die from suicide than in the line of duty,” said Fire Chief John Curd. “The mental health and wellness rooms allow our firefighters to decompress, and the energy pods allow our firefighters who had a rough day to disconnect for a while.”
Fire Station 88 sets the standard for station design and is poised to become an exemplar to all of Palm Beach County. The new building houses 1-Battalion Chief, 1-Truck Company, 1- Rescue Unit, Fire Prevention, and Fire Administration.
There will be a therapy dog on-site specially trained to help our brave firefighters cope with the demanding tolls of their jobs. In front of the fire station is a memorial site that honors the firefighters who lost their lives on 9/11.
This $20 million project was designed by Kaufman Lynn Construction and is the crown jewel for the Riviera Beach’s municipal buildings, serving the community with 100% capacity.
"Fire Station 88 is more than just a structure; it's a reflection of our profound dedication to the brave men and women who put their lives on the line every day for our safety,” said City Manager Jonathan Evans. “This station is not just a new addition to our municipal buildings, but is the crown jewel, promising to serve our community with unwavering reliability and efficiency.”
At Fire Station 88's grand opening on Saturday, July 8, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. residents and visitors will enjoy music, food, and prizes. The fire station tours are a must-see, showcasing how the building was carefully meticulously designed with our firefighters' optimal performance in mind. The building’s location is: 1920 W. Blue Heron Blvd. Riviera Beach, Florida.
We look forward to seeing you there!
