6/8/2023 - Police Chief Appoints Kevin Coppin As New Deputy Chief

RIVIERA BEACH POLICE CHIEF MICHAEL COLEMAN APPOINTS KEVIN COPPIN AS NEW DEPUTY POLICE CHIEF

RIVIERA BEACH, FL. (June 8, 2023) – The Riviera Beach Police Department is pleased
to announce the appointment of Mr. Kevin Coppin as the new Deputy Police Chief. His
start date is Monday, June 12, 2023. Mr. Coppin has 35 years of experience in law
enforcement and has close ties to Riviera Beach. His brother was the Assistant Chief of
Police for the Riviera Beach Police Department for 30 years until his retirement. It was no doubt that Chief Michael Coleman knew Mr. Coppin would be a great fit for the Riviera Beach Police Department.

“We are elated to have Mr. Coppin join our agency,” said Police Chief Michael Coleman.
“Not only does he possess the experience and leadership qualities that are valuable to
Riviera Beach, but he is truly passionate about the safety of the people in our city.”

Mr. Coppin has spent majority of his law enforcement career in the Palm Beach County
area and has focused on long in-depth and complicated investigations. He served as the Coordinator with the Crime Gun Intelligence Center for the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, Detective for the Juno Beach Police Department, Officer and Reserve Officer for the North Palm Police Department, and Officer for the Palm Beach Shores Police Department. He was promoted from Sergeant to Lieutenant and then later Captain for the West Palm Beach Police Department. While working for the West Palm Beach Police Department, he worked closely with the Riviera Beach Police Department on many cases.

During his tenure as a Captain with the West Palm Beach Police Department, Mr. Coppin
emphasized the Intelligence Led Policing philosophy, supervisor accountability and crime

 reduction initiatives. He encouraged the use of the Crime View Web by field supervisors

(timely crime information) and automated sector crime threshold alerts.

Mr. Coppin was project manager for the City Traffic Safety Red Light Camera Program
and also assisted the Law Department with Coordinating a Chronic Nuisance Properties
program. He was the project coordinator for the “License Plate Recognition” technology.
Since being placed in this position, the West Palm Beach Police Department has had a
marked increase in stolen/recovered tags and vehicles.

Mr. Coppin’s law enforcement career is marked by numerous achievements, awards and
recognitions for his work. He is certified by the United State Attorney’s Office Southern
District of Florida as an expert witness in organized street gangs and crack cocaine
investigations.

“I’m looking forward to officially starting and doing the best job I can do for Riviera Beach,” said Kevin Coppin. “I previously lived in Riviera Beach and I’m invested and connected to the City.”

Mr. Coppin’s experience, integrity, education and leadership are just some of the many
reasons as to why he will be a great asset to the Riviera Beach Police Department and
will work to ensure Riviera Beach is a much safer community.
