CITY OF RIVIERA BEACH ANNOUNCES GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY FOR FIRE STATION 87

RIVIERA BEACH, FL. (August 28, 2023) – The City of Riviera Beach, in collaboration with Riviera Beach Fire Rescue, is proud to continue an ambitious project: the reimagining and rebuilding of its fire stations strategically placed throughout the city. The brand-new Fire Station 88 has been met with overwhelming support and serves as a testament to the city's commitment to the well-being of its residents. As City leaders prepare to unveil the blueprint for Fire Station 87, anticipation in the community continues to escalate.

The groundbreaking ceremony for Fire Station 87 is scheduled for Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at 600 W. Blue Heron Blvd. This cutting-edge fire station, spanning an impressive 29,837 square feet, will be created on a spacious 3.335-acre plot, the very site where the existing fire station stands next to City Hall.

Showcasing supreme innovation, this two-story architectural masterpiece will incorporate a host of features designed to ensure the physical, mental, and cancer prevention well-being of our esteemed firefighters. Furthermore, we joyously announce that this prestigious establishment will house the City's first-ever Emergency Operations Center (EOC), located on the second floor.

“This addition highlights our relentless dedication to disaster preparedness,” said Fire Chief John Curd. “In times of natural or man-made disasters, our highly skilled emergency
management team will rely on this top-tier facility to conduct comprehensive assessments and coordinate life-saving operations.”

Underlining our commitment to preserving the heritage of Riviera Beach Fire Rescue, this forthcoming facility will pay homage to its illustrious past, serving as a mesmerizing tribute through captivating memorabilia. Visitors will be transported on a journey through time, as they discover the rich tapestry of stories and heroic acts that have shaped Riviera Beach’s fire rescue history. They will celebrate the brave men and women who have served our community with unwavering dedication.

City Manager, Jonathan Evans expressed his enthusiasm about this construction initiative, emphasizing its pivotal role in fortifying the city's emergency response capabilities and ensuring the highest standards of safety for our beloved community. "This groundbreaking development is a testament to our unwavering dedication to serving and protecting the fine residents of Riviera Beach," he remarked.

With this transformative project, Riviera Beach Fire Rescue paves the way for a promising future, marked by enhanced efficiency, innovation, and an unyielding commitment to safeguarding the welfare of our city.

Delray Beach-based Kaufman Lynn Construction will design and build the facility, which should be completed within 14 to 16 months. They are the same construction group that led the design-build team for Fire Station 88. Constructing Fire Station 87 is another added component of Riviera Beach’s innovative campaign, entitled “Reimagine Riviera Beach,” and it will cost approximately $20 million.

We invite members of the media, community leaders, and residents to join us in celebrating this momentous occasion and to witness the dawn of a new era for Riviera Beach Fire Rescue.
