NATHAN “NATE” E. OSGOOD

RE: NATHAN “NATE” E. OSGOOD NAMED POLICE CHIEF

Dear Community Stakeholders:

It is with great honor that I announce Mr. Nathan “Nate” E. Osgood as the next police chief for the City of Riviera Beach. Mr. Osgood brings an extensive law enforcement background to the agency after beginning his law enforcement career as a deputy sheriff in 1987. He possesses a Bachelors of Science in Public Administration from Barry University and a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Nova Southeastern University. He also attended and successfully completed the Southern Police Institute, which is revered as one of the top leadership training institutions for law enforcement professionals in the nation.

Mr. Osgood underwent an extensive background check by an independent third-party agency to ensure that a thorough and comprehensive review was completed before an offer was proffered. During this review, comments were obtained from individuals with his previous employer, the Broward County Sheriff’s Department, and from the City of West Palm Beach’s current police chief, Frank Adderly, who stated that Mr. Osgood is “an innovative thinker who respected new ideas and is willing to implement change in order to improve the organization.” Other words/phrases used to describe Mr. Osgood include “committed,” “conscientious,” “dedicated,” “trustworthy,” “team builder,” and “motivator.”

Based on the glowing recommendations from Mr. Osgood’s peers, the information contained in the background check, and weeks of conversations with sworn law enforcement personnel throughout the region, I am confident that Mr. Osgood will deliver the level of professionalism and change that we wish to see in our police department. Mr. Osgood understands the key elements of community policing and will work to attack criminal syndicates within our community and ensure that the city benefits from proactive and intelligent policing.

In closing, Mr. Osgood’s first day on the job is projected to be sometime in mid-March. A ceremony celebrating the transition of authority and the swearing in
of the new police chief for the City of Riviera Beach will be scheduled in the coming month. Thank you so much for your patience and understanding, as this process was intended to ensure that we select the best law enforcement
professional for our community. Join me in welcoming Riviera Beach’s
new police chief, Mr. Nathan Osgood.
