Effective this evening, March 20, 2020, at dusk, I will be authorizing the closure of the City of
Riviera Beach Municipal Beach, and all municipal beach access points. The duration of this
closure will be for the next 30 days. I will also be reducing available onsite parking at the Ocean
Walk/Mall by 50% to minimize public gatherings. This action is predicated on the direction and
guidelines provided by the White House, Office of the Governor, and Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention (CDC). Based on the information provided, it is imperative that we adhere to social
distancing to curtail potential exposure to COVID-19; thus, we are taking this measure with
abundant caution.
Furthermore, we are requesting that private owners along the beach also adhere to the CDC’s
guidelines for social distancing by maintaining six feet of separation from others and limiting
group gatherings to no more than ten people. As a result of these actions, I will be removing our
ocean rescue. That is, lifeguards will be taking the appropriate measures with Public Safety staff
to ensure the municipal beaches, and public access remains closed until the time articulated in this
notice expires. We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience, but please note that this decision is
in the best interests of the public’s health, safety, and welfare.
