FDOT Palm Beach County Traffic Report

August 21 through August 28, 2020

 

Palm Beach County, Fla.  Palm Beach County traffic will be affected this week by ongoing construction projects and maintenance work, Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) officials report. Weather permitting; closures will be in effect on I-95 and in other areas throughout Palm Beach County for construction activities.

CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS

 

INTERSTATE 95

 

  1. I-95 from south of SW 10th Street in the City of Deerfield Beach to south of Glades Road in the City of Boca Raton (95 Express Phase 3B-1)

Description: Work on this 4.8-mile 95 Express project includes widening and converting the existing I-95 HOV Lanes to Managed Lanes which will result in two tolled Express Lanes in each direction; the number of General Use lanes will remain the same. Other project improvements include bridge widenings at Palmetto Park Road and Camino Real, complete bridge replacement at the Hillsboro Canal, noise wall construction, portable traffic monitoring sites, toll gantry installation, Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) installation, ramp signaling at the I-95 entrance ramps from Palmetto Park Road, Express Lane markers and landscape relocation. Cost/Completion: $102 million. Completion is expected in Spring 2022.

Traffic Impact:

  • I-95 will have three lanes closed in each direction nightly as needed, Sunday through Thursday nights, with the first lane closing at 9:30 p.m., the second lane closing at 10:30 p.m., and the third lane closing at 11:30 p.m. until 5:30 a.m.
  • I-95 northbound from SW 18th Street to south of Glades Road has a new traffic pattern which is anticipated to be in place until Spring 2021.
  • I-95 Northbound Full Closure Notice: I-95 northbound lanes at Hillsboro Boulevard will be closed to traffic overnight, Monday night, Aug. 24 for overhead sign structure installation. The first lane will close at 9:30 p.m., the second lane will close at 10:30 p.m., and all lanes will be closed by 11:30 p.m., reopening by 5:30 a.m. each morning. Traffic will be detoured via the I-95 northbound exit ramp to Hillsboro Boulevard West, Military Trail and Palmetto Park Road. FHP will be on site to assist motorists.   • I-95 Southbound Full Closure Notice: I-95 southbound lanes at Glades Road will be closed to traffic overnight, Monday night, Aug. 31 for overhead sign structure installation. The first lane will close at 9:30 p.m., the second lane will close at 10:30 p.m., and all lanes will be closed by 11:30 p.m., reopening by 5:30 a.m. each morning. Traffic will be detoured via the southbound exit ramp to Glades Road, St. Andrew’s Boulevard and Palmetto Park Road. FHP will be on site to assist motorists. Please see detour flyer attached.
  • I-95 Southbound Full Closure Advanced Notice: I-95 southbound lanes at Palmetto Park Road will be closed to traffic overnight, Thursday night, Sept. 3 for overhead sign structure installation. The first lane will close at 9:30 p.m., the second lane will close at 10:30 p.m., and all lanes will be closed by 11:30 p.m., reopening by 5:30 a.m. each morning. Traffic will be detoured via the I-95 southbound exit ramp to Palmetto Park Road, Military Trail and Hillsboro Boulevard. FHP will be on site to assist motorists. Please see detour flyer attached.

Arterial Road Traffic Impact:

  • Full Sidewalk Closure Notice: Palmetto Park Road, between SW 12th Avenue and Military Trail, will have the south sidewalk closed completely for reconstruction of the Shared Use Path, through Wednesday morning, Sept. 9. Pedestrians and cyclists will be detoured to Camino Real via S. Military Trail and SW 12th Avenue. Please see detour flyer attached.
  • Palmetto Park Road at I-95 will have two lanes closed in each direction nightly, as needed, Sunday through Thursday. The first lane will close at 9 p.m., and the second lane will close at 10:30 p.m. All lanes will be opened by 5:30 a.m.
  • Palmetto Park Road at I-95 will have one lane closed in each direction daily, as needed, 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  • Camino Real at I-95 will have one lane closed in each direction daily, as needed, 9:30 a.m. until 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Ramp Impact: 

  • The I-95 northbound exit ramp to Palmetto Park Road will be closed nightly, 11 p.m. until 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Motorists will be detoured via I-95 northbound, Hillsboro Boulevard, and Military Trail. FHP will be on site to assist motorists.
  • The I-95 southbound entrance ramp from westbound Palmetto Park Road will be closed nightly, 11 p.m. until 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Motorists will be detoured via Military Trail and Hillsboro Boulevard. FHP will be on site to assist motorists.
  • The I-95 southbound entrance ramp from eastbound Palmetto Park Road will be closed nightly, 11 p.m. until 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Motorists will be detoured via Military Trail and Hillsboro Boulevard. FHP will be on site to assist motorists.
  • The northbound entrance ramp from eastbound and westbound Palmetto Park Road will be closed nightly, 11 p.m. until 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Traffic will be detoured via I-95 southbound to Hillsboro Boulevard to I-95 northbound.
  • The I-95 southbound entrance ramp from eastbound Hillsboro Boulevard will be closed nightly, 11 p.m. until 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Motorists will be detoured via Military Trail and SW 10th Street. FHP will be on site to assist motorists.
  • The I-95 northbound entrance ramp from eastbound Hillsboro Boulevard will be closed nightly, 11 p.m. until 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Motorists will be detoured via Military Trail and Palmetto Park Road. FHP will be on site to assist motorists.
  • The I-95 northbound entrance ramp from westbound Hillsboro Boulevard will be closed nightly, 11 p.m. until 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Motorists will be detoured via Military Trail and Palmetto Park Road. FHP will be on site to assist motorists.
  • The I-95 northbound exit ramp to eastbound Hillsboro Boulevard will be closed nightly, 11 p.m. until 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Motorists will be detoured via Palmetto Park Road and South Dixie Highway. FHP will be on site to assist motorists. Please note that ramp closures will be performed as needed per nighttime construction operations; consecutive ramps will not be closed at the same time.

 

  1. I-95 from south of Glades Road to south of Linton Boulevard and SR 808/Glades Road from NW 22nd Way to West University Drive in the Cities of Boca Raton and Delray Beach (95 Express Phase 3B-2)

Description:  95 Express Lanes Phase 3B-2 will extend the existing Express Lanes north from just south of Glades Road to just south of Linton Boulevard in Palm Beach County. One lane will be added and the High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane will be converted to create two Express Lanes in each direction. The number of General Use lanes will remain the same. Access to the Express Lanes will be provided via two designated ingress and egress locations—between Glades Road and Spanish River Boulevard and between Yamato Road and Linton Boulevard. The scope of work includes reconfiguration of the SR 808/Glades Road Interchange to a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI). Additional project improvements include overhead sign structure installation, Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) and Express Lane markers, new signalization, lighting, signing and pavement markings and ramp signalization at five interchanges from Glades Road to Linton Boulevard. Shoulder-mounted sound barrier walls will be constructed along I-95 northbound between Clint Moore Road and Linton Boulevard, ground-mounted sound walls will be installed on the south side of Yamato Road east of I-95 adjacent to the University Heights Community and along I-95 northbound south of Linton Boulevard adjacent to the Tierra Verde Community. The Clint Moore Road Bridge over I-95 will be fully reconstructed and the Glades Road bridge over the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA) railroad tracks and Military Trail and the I-95 bridge over the C-15 Canal (between Peninsula Drive and Linton Boulevard) will be widened. Cost/Completion: $148 million. Completion is expected in late 2023.

Traffic Impact:

  • I-95 will have up to four lanes closed in each direction nightly as needed for paving, 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday. The first lane will close at 9 p.m., the second lane will close at 9:30 p.m., and the third and fourth lane will close at 10 p.m.
  • I-95 northbound from Yamato Road to Linton Boulevard is in a new traffic pattern with traffic shifted to the outside to allow for median construction. This configuration is anticipated to be in place through summer 2021.

Ramp Impact:

  • The I-95 southbound entrance ramp from eastbound Yamato Road will be closed nightly as needed for paving, 10 p.m. until 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Motorists will be detoured via eastbound Yamato Road, SR 5/ North Federal Highway and Glades Road. FHP will be onsite to assist motorists.
  • The I-95 northbound entrance ramp from Yamato Road  will be closed nightly as needed for paving, 10 p.m. until 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Eastbound traffic will be detoured via SR 5/ North Federal Highway and Linton Boulevard, westbound traffic will be detoured via Congress Avenue and Peninsula Corp Drive.  FHP will be onsite to assist motorists.
  • The I-95 southbound entrance ramp from westbound Yamato Road will be closed nightly as needed for paving, 10 p.m. until 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Motorists will be detoured via Jog Road and Glades Road. FHP will be onsite to assist motorists.
  • The I-95 southbound exit ramp to Yamato Road will be closed nightly as needed for paving, 10 p.m. until 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Motorists will be detoured via I-95 and Glades Road. FHP will be onsite to assist motorists.
  • The I-95 northbound entrance ramp from Spanish River Boulevard will be closed nightly as needed for paving, 10 p.m. until 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Motorists will be detoured via Yamato Road, Congress Avenue and Peninsula Corp Drive. FHP will be onsite to assist motorists.
  • The I-95 northbound entrance ramp from westbound Glades Road will be closed nightly as needed for paving, 10 p.m. until 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Motorists will be detoured via Powerline Road and Jog Road. FHP will be on site to assist motorists.
  • The I-95 northbound entrance ramp from eastbound Glades Road will be closed nightly as needed for paving, 10 p.m. until 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Motorists will be detoured via US-1. FHP will be on site to assist motorists.
  • The I-95 northbound exit ramp to Glades Road will be closed nightly as needed for paving, 10 p.m. until 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Motorists will be detoured via Yamato Road and I-95 southbound. FHP will be on site to assist motorists.
  • The I-95 southbound entrance ramp from westbound Glades Road will be closed nightly as needed for paving, 10 p.m. until 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Motorists will be detoured via Powerline Road and Jog Road. FHP will be on site to assist motorists.
  • The I-95 southbound entrance ramp from eastbound Glades Road will be closed nightly as needed for paving, 10 p.m. until 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Motorists will be detoured via US-1. FHP will be on site to assist motorists.
  • The I-95 southbound exit ramp to Glades Road will be closed nightly as needed for paving, 10 p.m. until 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Motorists will be detoured via Palmetto Park and I-95 northbound. FHP will be on site to assist motorists.
  • The I-95 southbound entrance ramp from Linton Boulevard will be closed nightly as needed for paving, 10 p.m. until 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Westbound traffic will be detoured via Military Trail and Yamato Road, eastbound traffic will be detoured via SR 5/North Federal Highway and Yamato Road. FHP will be on site to assist motorists.
  • The I-95 northbound exit ramp to Congress Avenue will be closed nightly as needed for paving, 10 p.m. until 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Traffic will be detoured via I-95 northbound and Linton Boulevard. FHP will be on site to assist motorists.
  • The I-95 northbound entrance ramp from Congress Avenue/Peninsula Corp Drive will be closed nightly as needed for paving, 10 p.m. until 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Traffic will be detoured via I-95 and Yamato Road. FHP will be on site to assist motorists.
  • The I-95 southbound entrance ramp from Congress Avenue/Peninsula Corp Drive will be closed nightly as needed for paving, 10 p.m. until 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Traffic will be detoured via I-95 and Linton Boulevard. FHP will be on site to assist motorists.
  • The I-95 southbound exit ramp to Congress Avenue/Peninsula Corp Drive will be closed nightly as needed for paving, 10 p.m. until 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Traffic will be detoured via I-95, Yamato Road and Congress Avenue. FHP will be on site to assist motorists.
  • Please note that ramp closures will be closed as needed per paving production; consecutive ramps will not be closed at the same time.

Arterial Road Impact:

  • Glades Road from NW 22nd Way to W. University Drive will have one lane closed in each direction daily, 9:30 a.m. until 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  • Glades Road from NW 22nd Way to W. University Drive will have one lane closed in each direction nightly, with the first lane closed 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. and two lanes closed 10:30 p.m. until 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday nights.

 

  1. I-95 Interchange Improvements at Atlantic Avenue in the City of Delray Beach

Description: Work includes widening the I-95 northbound entrance ramp from Atlantic Avenue, creating a dedicated lane for I-95 northbound and southbound access from westbound Atlantic Avenue, construction of two turn lanes from westbound Atlantic Avenue; one to northbound Congress Avenue and one to southbound Congress Avenue, milling, resurfacing, pavement markings for improved safety and visibility, realigned crosswalks for improved pedestrian safety, internally illuminated and electronic display signs, signalization, pedestrian detectors, and traffic monitoring sites. Cost/Completion: $5.2 million. Completion is expected in fall 2020.

Traffic Impact:

  • Atlantic Avenue from 13th Avenue to NW 23rd Avenue will have two through lanes closed daily, as needed, 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. and nightly, as needed, 9 p.m. until 5 a.m., Sunday through Saturday.
  • Westbound Atlantic Avenue approaching I-95 has a new configuration. The northernmost, or far right lane, of westbound Atlantic Avenue which begins just west of NW 12th Avenue is now designated as I-95 entrance ramp ingress only. Vehicles traveling in this lane will not be able to perform a through movement to continue west on Atlantic Avenue due to the installation of a concrete traffic separator; this lane is exclusively designated for vehicles wishing to access I-95 northbound or southbound. Please note that motorists must decide on their selected movement before they reach NW 12th Avenue.
  • The Atlantic Avenue north sidewalk from 12th Avenue to NW 23 Avenue is closed completely for roadway reconstruction. Pedestrians will be detoured to the south sidewalk via existing crosswalks.
  • Congress Avenue from NW 1st Street to Lowson Boulevard may have one lane closed daily in each direction, as needed, daily, 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. and nightly, 9 p.m. until 5 a.m., Sunday through Saturday.
  • NW 12th Avenue will have the westbound turn lane closed, nightly as needed, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday night.
  • The I-95 northbound entrance ramp from Atlantic Avenue will have one lane closed nightly, as needed, 9 p.m. until 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday.

 

  1. I-95 Northbound Sound Wall Extension at Diane Drive in the City of Boynton Beach  

Description: This 0.59-mile project includes extending the existing ground mounted sound wall along I-95 northbound at Diane Drive approximately 500 feet to the north and south, placing sod along the new sound wall, performing utility adjustments and removing the existing fence behind the new sound wall. Cost/Completion: $1.5 million. Completion is expected in Spring 2021.

Traffic Impact: I-95 northbound will have the outside right lane closed nightly, as needed, 9 p.m. until 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday, through Spring 2021.

 

  1. Improvements of Gateway Boulevard at SR-9/I-95 From east of High Ridge Road to east of I-95 in the City of Boynton Beach

Description: This 0.1659-mile improvement project includes conversion of the eastbound outside through lane to a dual through and right-turn lane for the I-95 southbound entrance ramp, new signalization and signage, median modifications and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) upgrades. Cost/Completion: $552,417.92. Completion is expected in late 2020.

Traffic Impact: Gateway Boulevard, from east of High Ridge Road to east of I-95 may have one lane closed, daily, 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Gateway Boulevard, from east of High Ridge Road to east of I-95 may have two lanes closed in each direction nightly, 7 p.m. until 5:30 a.m., Sunday through Thursday nights, for paving. One through lane of traffic will be maintained at all times. FHP will be on site to assist motorists.

 

  1. Westbound SR 704/Okeechobee Boulevard to Southbound SR 9/I-95 Bridge Rehabilitation and Painting Project

Description: This 0.17-mile project in West Palm Beach began July 2, 2020. Improvements consist of cleaning and painting the steel and concrete portions of the ramp connecting westbound Okeechobee Boulevard to southbound I-95 as well as conducting minor repairs on the bridge drainage system.  

Cost/Completion: $1.2 million/Spring 2021

Traffic Impact:

  • All lanes are open
  • Advance Notice: I-95 will have three southbound inside lanes closed nightly at Okeechobee Boulevard from 11:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday beginning Tuesday, Sept. 1, to paint the steel portions of the I-95 southbound entrance ramp. For more information, please contact Community Outreach Specialist Angel Streeter Gardner at (561) 886-8773 or angel@valerin-group.com.

 

  1. I-95 Lighting and Roadway Improvements Project from south of State Road 706/Indiantown Road to County Road 708/SE Bridge Road

Description: This 11.59-mile I-95 improvements project will begin September 9, 2020 in Jupiter and Hobe Sound. Work includes installing new roadway lighting with LED luminaires, replacing the high mast lighting system with a conventional LED roadway lighting system, extending the northbound I-95 merge lane just north of Indiantown Road, extending the deceleration distances for the I-95 northbound to westbound Indiantown Road exit ramp and the I-95 southbound to eastbound Indiantown Road exit ramp, and installing wrong way vehicle detection systems at the Indiantown Road and SE Bridge Road I-95 interchanges and new advanced warning signage.

Cost/Completion: $12.3 million. Completion is expected in spring 2022.

Maintenance Lane Closures Unrelated to Construction:

  • Advance Notice: Starting Sunday, Sept. 13, two southbound lanes of I-95 will be closed Sunday through Thursday night from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., through Monday, Sept. 21, for loop replacement work. For more information, please contact Project Manager John Mattoon at 561-262-4692.

 

SOUTHERN PALM BEACH COUNTY PROJECTS

 

  1. SR A1A/Haven Ashe Bridge Maintenance Project over the Boca Raton Inlet

Description: This 0.10-mile project in Boca Raton began Aug. 8, 2020. Improvements consist of cleaning and painting the steel and concrete portions of the State Road A1A bascule bridge over the Boca Raton Inlet.  

Cost/Completion: $802,818 / Late Fall 2020

Traffic Impact:

  • The SR A1A/Haven Ashe Bridge will be closed for approximately 60 days beginning Monday, August 24. Traffic will be detoured as follows:
    • Traffic south of the bridge should: Go south on State Road A1A to Hillsboro Boulevard; go west on Hillsboro Boulevard to Federal Highway; go north on Federal Highway to Palmetto Park Road, go east on Palmetto Park Road to State Road A1A.
    • Traffic north of the bridge should: Go north on State Road A1A to Palmetto Park Road; go west on Palmetto Park Road to Federal Highway; go south on Federal Highway to Hillsboro Boulevard; go east on Hillsboro Boulevard to State Road A1A.For more information, please contact Community Outreach Specialist Angel Streeter Gardner at (561) 886-8773 or angel@valerin-group.com.

 

  1. US 1 Resurfacing Project from south of Eve Street to south of Harbourside Drive

Description: This 0.5-mile roadway improvements project began Monday, June 29, 2020, in the City of Delray Beach. Work includes roadway resurfacing, drainage, signalization and signage improvements, pavement marking upgrades including roadway striping for bike lanes, and sidewalk removal and replacement.

Cost/Completion: $1.2 million. Completion is expected in spring 2021.

Traffic Impact:

 

  1. Swinton Avenue Resurfacing Project

Description: This 1.5-mile roadway improvements project began Tuesday, Apr. 14, 2020, from S 10th Street to 4th Street/Lake Ida Road in the City of Delray Beach. Work includes milling and resurfacing, adding 5-foot wide sidewalk on the west side of the roadway from S 10th Street to S 3rd Street, drainage, signage and pavement marking upgrades including roadway striping for shared use travel lanes, and minor signalization improvements to existing equipment.

Cost/Completion: $1.4 million. Completion is expected in early 2021.

Traffic Impact:

·         One lane may be closed in each direction, intermittently, from S 10th Street to 4th Street/Lake Ida Road, 7 a.m. until 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, through fall 2020.   1. US 1 Improvements Project from George Bush Boulevard to Murano Bay Drive

Description: This 4.3-mile roadway improvements project began Thursday, Oct. 17, 2019, in the cities of Delray Beach and Boynton Beach. Work includes milling and resurfacing, roadway reconstruction, concrete curb and gutter, driveway, sidewalk, bridge railing, and bike lane installation.

Cost/Completion: $5.4 million. Completion is expected in early 2021.

Traffic Impact:

·         One lane may be closed in each direction, daily, 7 a.m. until 3 p.m., and nightly, 9 p.m. until 6 a.m., Sunday night through Friday afternoon, through fall 2020.

·         Nighttime paving operations are underway along the project corridor, 9 p.m. until 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday nights, moving to different locations each week. Mainline and side street paving began on the south end of the project limits, and is working north through approximately September 2020, weather permitting. In order for this work to be completed, sections of on-street parking may be closed with orange barrels for a few days at a time, as needed.   1. El Clair Ranch Road Bridge Replacement

Description: This bridge replacement project began Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2020 in unincorporated Palm Beach County. Work includes full bridge demolition and replacement, and bike lane and sidewalk installation.

Cost/Completion: $2 million. Completion is expected in spring 2021.

Traffic Impact:

·         Full Bridge Closure: The bridge is closed for reconstruction through spring 2021. Southbound motorists may detour via Flavor Pict Road westbound to Jog Road, southbound to Lake Ida Road, then eastbound to El Clair Ranch Road. Northbound motorists may detour via Lake Ida Road westbound to Jog Road, northbound to Flavor Pict Road, then eastbound to El Clair Ranch Road. Description: This bridge replacement project began Monday, Feb. 3, 2020, between Lantana Road and Tallulah Road in unincorporated Palm Beach County. Work includes full bridge demolition and replacement, and minor widening for bike lane and sidewalk installation.

Cost/Completion: $1.3 million. Completion is expected in early 2021.

Traffic Impact:

  1. State Road 7 Resurfacing Improvements Project from Atlantic Avenue to Boynton Beach Boulevard

Description: This 5.09-mile roadway improvements project began Monday, June 24, 2019, in Delray Beach and Boynton Beach. Work includes milling and resurfacing with minor shoulder widening, drainage improvements and lighting upgrades, installation of gravity wall, guardrail, signing and pavement markings, and intersection improvements at Atlantic Avenue and Boynton Beach Boulevard, including traffic monitoring systems and pedestrian detection/signals.

Cost/Completion: $7.9 million. Completion is expected in late 2020.

  1. Boynton Beach Boulevard Improvements Project from Congress Avenue to west of Jog Road

Description: This 3.7-mile roadway improvements project began Thursday, Aug. 8, 2019, in Boynton Beach. Work includes milling and resurfacing, minor widening for bike lane installation, sidewalk, curb and gutter reconstruction, median safety improvements (including partially closing the  median opening at Pear Tree Circle), installing directional turn lanes into Lime Tree Condominiums and Bent Tree Villas East, extending the existing turn lane at Bent Tree Drive, drainage, signage, and pavement marking upgrades, minor signalization and lighting improvements, and limited tree removal to allow for median and bike lane safety enhancements.

Cost/Completion: $8.3 million. Completion is expected in early 2021.

·         The inside lane, from Jog Road to Congress Ave., may be closed in each direction, around-the-clock, Monday through Friday. Two lanes will remain open in each direction during this time.

  1. Boynton Beach Boulevard Improvements Project from Lyons Road to Florida’s Turnpike

Description: This 1.2-mile roadway improvements project began Sunday, July 12, 2020, in unincorporated Palm Beach County. Work includes milling and resurfacing, minor widening for increased length of the eastbound and westbound turn lanes at the northbound entrance to Florida’s Turnpike, pedestrian pole, guardrail, signage and pavement marking upgrades, including green striping for bike lanes, installation of sidewalk and ADA detectable warning mats, and minor drainage and lighting upgrades.

Cost/Completion: $2 million. Completion is expected in spring 2021.

Traffic Impact:

  • One lane of Boynton Beach Boulevard may be closed in each direction, 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

  1. Fiber Optic Communication Cable Improvements Project

Description: This fiber optic communication cable improvements project, which spans over 22 miles in Palm Beach County, began Sunday, July 12, 2020. Work includes the installation of fiber optic cable within existing conduits, and repairs to sections of damaged conduit, at the following locations: Military Trail from Butts Road to Champion Boulevard, Lyons Road from Boynton Beach Boulevard to north of Lantana Road, Lawrence Road from Boynton Beach Boulevard to Hypoluxo Road, and Seminole Pratt Whitney Road from Southern Boulevard to Orange Boulevard. This project also includes the installation of two (2) local hub sites and six (6) closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras to be connected to the Traffic Management Center.

Cost/Completion: $1.4 million. Completion is expected in spring 2021.

·         Portions of the outside shoulder and sidewalk may be closed in each direction, intermittently, on Military Trail from Butts Road to Champion Boulevard, 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, through fall 2020.   1. South Florida Rail Corridor (SFRC) Safety Improvements Project

Description: Improvements under this project include installing high emphasis pavement markings to warn drivers and pedestrians to stay clear of the railroad tracks and enhancing the railroad crossing advanced signage at Yamato Road, Linton Boulevard, Forest Hill Boulevard, Summit Boulevard, and Okeechobee Boulevard in Palm Beach County.

Cost/ Completion: $600,420/Fall 2020

Traffic Impact:

  • One to two lanes will be closed in each direction along Okeechobee Boulevard 450 feet east and west from the centerline of the SFRC railroad, Monday, August 24 through Tuesday, August 25 between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

CENTRAL PALM BEACH COUNTY PROJECTS

 

  1. Southern Boulevard (SR 80) Bridges Replacement Project

Description This 0.76-mile project includes replacing the existing bascule (draw) bridge and tide relief bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway (ICWW) and Lake Worth Lagoon between the Town of Palm Beach and the City of West Palm Beach. The project limits are between Washington Road in West Palm Beach and State Road A1A/South Ocean Boulevard in Palm Beach. New decorative lighting, pedestrian features, traffic signals, signage and drainage are included. A temporary bridge has been built north of the existing bridge to maintain traffic while the replacement bascule bridge is under construction.

Cost/Completion: $94 million. Completion is expected in summer 2021.

Traffic Impact:

  • Flagler Drive from Southern Boulevard to Worth Court North is closed through fall 2020 as the roadway is reconstructed. Sidewalks also are closed. Access will be maintained for local traffic only. Traffic will be detoured as follows:
    • Traffic going north on Flagler Drive should: Go west on Worth Court North to Washington Road; go north on Washington Road to Southern Boulevard; go east on Southern Boulevard to Flagler Drive.
    • Traffic going south on Flagler Drive should: Go west on Southern Boulevard to Washington Road; go south on Washington Road to Worth Court North; go east on Worth Court North to Flagler Drive.

Marine Impact:

  • The navigable waterway through the Southern Boulevard Bridge is restricted to half channel navigation. Full channel openings will not occur. During half-channel closures, the horizontal clearance through the bridge is 40 feet.
  • Advance Notice: The channel will be closed with suspended bridge openings from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, and Tuesday, Sept. 1, for the installation of a bascule leaf.
  • The schedule of channel restrictions is published in the U.S. Coast Guard’s Local Notice to Mariners at www.navcen.uscg.gov.

  1. State Road 80/Southern Boulevard at Forest Hill Boulevard/Crestwood Boulevard

Description: This 0.46-mile intersection improvement project, located in Wellington and Royal Palm Beach, began on October 24, 2019. Work consists of adding a third westbound to southbound left-turn lane from Southern Boulevard to Forest Hill Boulevard, widening the bridge over the C-51 Canal, converting the Forest Hill Boulevard northbound right-turn lanes to a free-flowing right-turn lane, and widening Southern Boulevard to accommodate an eastbound acceleration lane. Other improvements include milling and resurfacing, drainage, curb and gutter, lighting, guardrails, signalization, sidewalks, landscaping, signage and pavement markings.

Cost/Completion: $5.7 million. Completion is anticipated in spring 2021.

Traffic Impact:

  • Crestwood Boulevard’s outside southbound lane between Renaissance School Road and north of Quercus Court may be closed 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday for bridge work.
  • Southern Boulevard’s inside lanes in each direction from Forest Hill Boulevard to Park Central may be closed 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday for work in the median.
  • Southern Boulevard from west of Forest Hill Boulevard to Park Central may have multiple eastbound and westbound lane closures from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday.
  • Southern Boulevard’s north sidewalk from Forest Hill Boulevard to Royal Palm Beach Boulevard is closed until further notice.   1. State Road 80/Southern Boulevard and Lyons Road/Sansbury’s Way

Description: This 1-mile intersection improvement project, located in unincorporated Palm Beach County, began active construction on October 18, 2018. Work consists of adding eastbound right-turn lane and a second westbound left-turn lane from Southern Boulevard to southbound Lyons Road; adding a second right-turn lane from northbound Lyons Road to eastbound Southern Boulevard; and adding a second northbound lane on Lyons Road and Sansbury’s Way. Other improvements include minor roadway widening, widening the Lyons Road bridge over the C-51 Canal, milling and resurfacing, drainage improvements, curb and gutter, lighting, guardrails, signalization, sidewalk, signage and pavement markings.

Cost/Completion: $7.5 million. Completion is anticipated in fall 2020.

Traffic Impact:

  • Sansbury’s Way’s southbound right-turn lane to westbound Southern Boulevard will be closed 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday for roadway widening and curb work.
  • Sansbury’s Way southbound right-turn lane to westbound Southern Boulevard will be closed 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. for work on a traffic signal mast arm. There will be short-term intermittent traffic stops at the intersection after 11 p.m. to handle mast arms over the roadway.
  • The northbound right-turn lane from Southern Boulevard to the Shoppes at Southern Palms is closed until further notice.

  1. Vehicle Detection at Traffic Signals Improvements Project

Description: This improvements project is upgrading traffic signalization with vehicle video detection systems at 16 locations in Palm Beach County, and began Monday, Aug. 17, 2020. Intersection locations include: Hypoluxo Road and Hagen Ranch Road in Lake Worth; Forest Hill Boulevard and Olympia Boulevard/Via Buena Vida in Wellington; Summit Boulevard and Pine Jog Elementary School, Congress Avenue and Gun Club Road, Pike Road and Florida’s Turnpike, Quadrille Boulevard and Hibiscus Street, 45th Street and Haverhill Road, and 45th Street and Corporate Way in West Palm Beach; Military Trail and Blue Heron Boulevard in Riviera Beach; Congress Avenue and the Lowes/Target Entrance just south of Northlake Boulevard, and Congress Avenue and Silver Beach Road in Lake Park; Military Trail and Hood Road, Military Trail and I-95/Kyoto Gardens Drive, Alternate A1A and Hood Road, and Alternate A1A and Lake Victoria Gardens Avenue in Palm Beach Gardens; and, Indiantown Road and Florida’s Turnpike in Jupiter.

  1. State Road 25 Resurfacing Project from the Broward/Palm Beach County Line to Milepost 12.626

Description: Construction on this 12.626-mile resurfacing project began Wednesday, May 13, 2020, in Palm Beach County. Work includes milling and resurfacing the existing travel lanes and shoulders, including shoulder widening, concrete barrier wall installation, guardrail removal and replacement, and signage, pavement marking, and rumble strip installation.

Cost/Completion: $21.8 million. Completion is expected in early 2022.

Traffic Impact:

  • The inside lane from the Broward/Palm Beach County Line to Milepost 12.626 is closed around-the-clock in each direction through summer 2020.   1. State Road 80/Southern Boulevard, from west of Lion Country Safari Road to Forest Hill Boulevard/Crestwood Boulevard

Description: Construction on this 7.2-mile widening project began Tuesday, July 31, 2018, in the Village of Royal Palm Beach, Village of Wellington and the Town of Loxahatchee Groves. Work includes widening the existing roadway from four to six lanes, adding a 12-foot shared-use pathway on the north side of the roadway, adding bike lanes, milling and resurfacing, drainage improvements, adding lighting and signalization, installing curb and gutter, guardrails, minor median modifications and signage and pavement markings.

Cost/Completion: $33.5 million. Completion is expected in summer 2021.

Traffic Impact:

  • Southern Boulevard’s eastbound outside lane between B Road/Binks Forest Drive and Palms West Parkway will be closed 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday for work on the outside shoulder.
  • Southern Boulevard’s westbound outside lane between B Road/Binks Forest Drive and Cane Field Trace will be closed 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday for work on the shoulder and excavation.
  • Southern Boulevard’s eastbound right-turn lane to southbound B Road/Binks Forest Drive may be closed 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday for installation of a traffic signal pole.
  • Southern Boulevard’s inside eastbound and westbound lanes will be closed 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. Sunday through Friday at Seminole Pratt Whitney Road and Lion Country Safari Road for work on traffic signals.
  • Median openings between Cane Field Trace and west of Palms West Parkway may be closed periodically for demolition and reconstruction. Median openings will not be closed consecutively.
  • The dual left-turn lanes from eastbound Southern Boulevard to northbound F Road will be reduced to one lane until further notice to construct the median.
  • One lane may be closed periodically in each direction of Southern Boulevard from Palms West Parkway to Cane Field Trace from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily Monday through Friday.   1. Belle Glade Sidewalk Improvements Project

Description: Construction on this 2.4-mile sidewalk improvements project began Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019, in the City of Belle Glade. Work includes sidewalk replacement, pavement widening and restoration, driveway reconstruction, drainage structure and pipe replacement, signage and pavement marking upgrades, and installation of detectable warning systems at 13 different locations.

Cost/Completion: $1.8 million. Completion is expected in fall 2020.

  • SE Avenue F, from SE 1st Street to SE 7th Drive, may have daily lane closures with a flagging operation, 7:30 a.m. until 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.

  1. State Road 15 Resurfacing Project

Description: This 2-mile roadway resurfacing project began Sunday, Mar. 15, 2020, in the City of Pahokee. Work includes roadway resurfacing from south of Morgan Road to south of Shirley Drive, guardrail replacement, and installation of new signage and pavement markings.

Cost/Completion: $3.9 million. Completion is expected in late 2020.

Traffic Impact:

  • Full Road Closure: State Road 15, from New Hope Charities, Inc., north to Shirley Drive, is closed to traffic through fall 2020. Only emergency vehicles and residents living within this section may pass through the construction zone. Hooker Highway to New Hope Charities Inc. will be open to local traffic only in each direction during this time. Motorists may detour via State Road 15, State Road 715, and Hooker Highway. Traffic Impact: STRIDE (Statewide Traffic and Railroad Initiative emphasizing Dynamic Envelopes) Improvements Project, installing high emphasis pavement markings to warn drivers and pedestrians to stay clear of the South Florida Rail Corridor (SFRC) and CSX Railroad (RR) tracks. The contractor will be working at one crossing at a time, weather permitting, in the following order at the SFRC and CSX RR tracks in Lake Worth: Seventh Avenue North, 17th Avenue North and East Terrace Drive, and 7th Street.
