Major Steven Thomas's roots run deep in the City of Riviera Beach, where he was not only raised but also resided for over two decades. His journey in law enforcement is a testament to his unwavering commitment to his hometown community.

Having attended elementary and middle school within Riviera Beach and graduating from Suncoast High School, Major Thomas's connection to the city is deeply ingrained. His dedication to serving Riviera Beach began when he joined the City's police force on September 3, 2002, marking the beginning of a career devoted to safeguarding the place he calls home.

Major Thomas's early days as a road patrol officer, starting in January 2003, laid the foundation for his subsequent ascent through the ranks. During this period, he displayed exceptional versatility and skill, transitioning through various roles within the department. From serving as a Field Training Officer (FTO) to assuming responsibilities as a Tactical Unit Officer, Police Defensive Driving Instructor, and Firearms Instructor, Major Thomas demonstrated his proficiency across diverse areas of law enforcement.

In 2006, Major Thomas's capabilities were further showcased when he joined the department's Special Response Team (SRT), where he served as both an operator and Sniper. His tenure with the SRT continues to this day, with Major Thomas currently holding the esteemed position of Team Commander, a role that demands both strategic leadership and operational expertise.

The trajectory of Major Thomas's career took another significant turn in July 2007 when he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant of Police. Over the years, he supervised road patrol operations with diligence and dedication before transitioning to lead the Training Unit. In this capacity, Major Thomas emerged as the department's foremost instructor for Firearms and other critical topics, ensuring that his fellow officers were equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in their roles.

In March 2014, Major Thomas's exemplary leadership qualities were recognized once again with his promotion to the rank of Captain of Police. In this role, he assumed oversight of crucial divisions within the police department, including training, evidence, records, communications, and technology, underscoring his breadth of expertise and administrative acumen.

Continuing his upward trajectory, Major Thomas was promoted to the rank of Major of Police in 2017, a testament to his outstanding contributions and leadership within the department. Throughout his distinguished career, Major Thomas has been the recipient of numerous accolades and commendations, including being recognized as Officer of the Year by the police department in 2005 and receiving the Florida Retail Federation's Officer of the Year award in 2011.
