Dr. Julia Botel, Chair

Dr. Julie Botel brings to the council, a rich background in both the private and public sectors, most recently as deputy superintendent of schools in Pennsylvania, overseeing a $143 million budget and 1200 employees. Previously she held executive positions at Apple Computer.

Dr. Botel has a wide range of interests in serving Riviera Beach, including improving the city's pro-business reputation in order to attract new businesses, thereby creating more jobs and increasing homeownership for citizens. Her background in education has led to a keen desire to create an educated workforce capable of taking advantage of lucrative opportunities in Riviera Beach's burgeoning maritime industry, particularly in the field of skilled trades and logistics. Trimming city budgets by eliminating duplication and waste is another area she intends to explore.

Dr. Botel is active in a number of environmental organizations and dedicated to protecting our waterways, beaches, and particularly the fragile ecosystem on Singer Island.

A native New Yorker, Dr. Botel received her bachelor's degree from Marymount Manhattan College, two masters degrees from Columbia University, a doctorate from Nova University, and post-doctoral work at Harvard University's School of Business. She is widowed with three daughters, a son, and seven grandchildren.
