Redistrict Riviera Beach

Redistrict Reimagine and Revive Riviera Beach

What – The City of Riviera Beach is undergoing redistricting. What is redistricting? Redistricting is where residential data collected during the census is used to evaluate political representation. What redistricting is not? Redistricting is not a malicious attempt to change voting district or exclude any person(s) or group from voting. The process of redistricting was designed to ensure that as the population in a specific area grows, so does the political representation.

Why – are we undergoing the redistricting process now? According to the City’s Charter, Article II – Government, this process should occur every ten years. However, the last documented redistricting took place in 1979. Therefore, neglecting to complete this process over the past decades resulted in the City facing a lawsuit. In a settlement, the City agreed to conduct the procedure.

When – the City of Riviera Beach has started this process and will have completed it by the end of Summer of 2024. Moving forward, the governing body will be enacted in unison with City Administration policies and legislation to ensure future compliance.

Where – the entire City of Riviera Beach except unincorporated areas. Areas such as Gramercy Park, Park Palm Lake Estates Mobile Home, and A Garden Walk Mobile Home Park. These areas are not considered to be in the Riviera Beach Municipal boundaries.

Who – all residents of Riviera Beach. Registered and non-registered voters. This redistricting process also services the business community as well.

The City of Riviera Beach has initiated a redistricting initiative and the City Council has agreed to move all three map options forward to gather public input. Join City officials, community members, and FAU experts for an in-depth discussion on Thursday, May 23, 2024 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at The Richard and Annie Brooks Community Center located at 594 W. 4th Street, Riviera Beach, FL 33404 and on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at the Ambassador Center located at 1229 E. Blue Heron Blvd., Riviera Beach, FL 33404 on how this will impact the city's representation.

The meeting will be held both virtually and in-person.
